Megan Tanel is senior vice president of exhibitions & events for the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), responsible for overseeing AEM trade shows and show partnerships, U.S. and globally, and event education/meeting programs. She has also served as director of AEM’s CONEXPO-CON/AGG exposition, which focuses on construction equipment and materials, and is the largest event of this type in the Western Hemisphere.
Tanel is a member of the PCMA Professional Convention Management Association and served as 2015 Chair of the IAEE International Association of Exhibitions and Events and has served on the IAEE Board since 2010. She has served as IAEE Education Committee Chair, and is a graduate of the IAEE Krakoff Leadership Institute.
Tanel joined AEM in 1995 and has held a series of exhibition-related posts with increasing responsibilities. She has served as director of AEM’s International Construction and Utility Equipment Exposition (ICUEE) and show manager of the AEM-produced World of Asphalt Show & Conference, helping launch the inaugural 2001 event.
She also served a stint as national sales manager for Loews Hotels, where she helped launch the first-ever House of Blues Hotel, in Chicago, Illinois.
Tanel has a degree in mass communications from the University of Wisconsin – LaCrosse.
Tanel speaks at exposition/meetings industry events and was co-chair of the inaugural Exhibitions Day event in Washington, DC. She has earned trade show honors from leading industry media, including being named to the Expo Elite list (Expo), Top 25 Women in the Industry (Meetings and Conventions), and Who’s Who in the Industry (Trade Show Executive).
